We love synthesizers. And string instruments. And even more: the combination of both! Therefore, we have developed a concert program that highlights various aspects and interfaces between synthesizers and strings, makes them audible, and conveys current musical creations. PULSE invites you to an excursion into the sound laboratory: granular delays, sound synthesis, sawtooth oscillations, filtered spectra, ring modulators, harmonies enriched with shimmering octaves. A search for sonic overlaps with analog synths, PULSE thus becomes a human-played sequencer,
a string quartet sonically enhanced with synths and effects pedals. The Synths & Strings concert program features two commissioned compositions by PULSE, linked by the lab-like collaboration with Pablo Garretón. In Judd Greenstein's Octet in 1979, PULSE grows into an octet with Korg Polysix, MOOG, Yamaha, and Roland Juno. All of this takes place in a stage set resembling a laboratory.
