The violinist Johannes Haase moves on electric and modern instruments
in the wonderful intersection of contemporary music, jazz and
improvised music. He collaborates with artists such as rapper Flowin
Immo, sitar master Imran Khan and pianist Johanna Borchert, played
tangos in milongas in Buenos Aires, concerts at the Fusion Festival as
well as in major concert halls worldwide, among others with the
Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
His solo projects focus on contemporary sounds, electronics and
improvisation: with the use of effect devices, preparations and
unusual playing techniques, sound worlds are explored / opened up that
are not normally associated with a violin, thus expanding the concept
of instruments. Haase initiates projects and regularly works
interdisciplinary: in the audiovisual Haase & Rößler Duo and since
2014 with architects, visual artists and poets of the Corporación
Cultural Amereida, Chile (Ciudad Abierta). In 2018 and 2019, he has
collaborated with the Goethe Institute in India and Chile.
Collaboration with composers in Europe and South America is a natural
and inspiring part of his life, and he has particularly enjoyed
working with Beat Furrer, Klaus Huber, and does so regularly with
composers of the younger generation. Johannes is the winner of the
John Cage Prize of the John Cage Organ Foundation Halberstadt, and he
was also awarded the Klaus Huber Special Prize of the Hochschule der
Künste Bremen for his commitment to contemporary music. He is co-
founder of the Kommas Ensemble (Cologne).
He also performs worldwide with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen
and the Kammerorchester Basel, collectivo eunk, in duo with Johanna
Borchert, the violin-drum duos ohneland and Scylla, and the
improvisation groups Myotis Kollektiv and The First Church of Free
Music.
Johannes has given masterclasses and workshops at various universities
in South America Europe and Asia and was a lecturer with the Junge
Deutsche Philharmonie in 2018, and since 2019 he has been teaching
improvisation at the Academy of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie
Bremen.
